PROGRAM SUMMARY
Beautiful One is a program designed specifically for young girls who are dis-engaged from school or who have poor school attendance. It’s a place where girls are shown that despite what the media says about them, they are beautiful and have a sense of worth. Teenage girls are constantly bombarded with the message that they are not good enough, smart enough or strong enough to face the world. However, the Beautiful One program shows these girls that they are Beautiful, accepted and capable of having a successful future.

What does it look like?
The Beautiful One program runs once a week for 8 weeks during class time in a room chosen by the hosted school. The program best appeals to year 9 and year 10 students, as this is when young girls start to form and develop who they are as a young woman. Students enjoy attending the Beautiful One Program because of the fantastic and entertaining activities that the team run. These activities are used to create an environment where students feel safe and open to discuss current issues that they may be facing.

Each week at the Beautiful One program there is a different topic for the girls to focus on, which will empower and challenge them. The program starts with fun games or activities to help make the girls feel comfortable. Then a Beautiful One mentor would run a 10-15 minute discussion about a chosen topic for the week e.g. Beauty, Self esteem, confidence, hygiene etc. This part of the program is designed to be an open discussion so girls can share their feelings and thoughts on the subject. The Beautiful One mentors encourage the girls and facilitate a safe environment for the students to speak freely. At the end of each program the girls are provided the opportunity to write down a few things that they liked from the discussion and apply this to their lives during the week as well as being challenged to act on this before the following session.
